Built on the plateau of Eileon and at an altitude of 160 meters, Iliokastro probably took its name from its vineyards, which produced very sweet wine. It was formerly known as Karakatsi, which means black eyebrow in Turkish. It is located about 7 km north of Ermioni.

Iliokastro is famous for its wine and traditional taverns.

In Iliokastro there were in ancient times the sanctuaries of the Eleusinian goddesses, Demeter and her daughter, Persephone. Today, the ruins of the ancient city of Eileo are the main attractions in the area of Iliokastro, while a polygonal enclosure of the walls, which served as the Acropolis of the village, foundations of other buildings and traces of Mycenaean tombs have been preserved from the temples.
