This institution is held in Ermioni, once a year by the Municipality of Ermionida, during the summer months. The Municipality of Ermionida, recognizing the great contribution of the Goodwill Ambassador Ms. Mariana Vardinoyanni to both Culture and Man, decided to establish this annual institution, which is under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic, and which honours persons or bodies whose actions have contributed to the promotion of Culture at national or local level.
The “Marianna V. Vardinoyani Culture Awards” are awarded to those who have contributed to the promotion of culture and to the development of the cultural life of the country or region. Vardinoyannis’ Culture Awards have so far honoured important personalities who have contributed to the country’s culture at international level as well such as the Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology of the University of Thessaloniki and President of the Acropolis Museum Dimitrios Pandermalis, the Professor of Archaeology of the University of Crete and distinguished archaeologist Nikolaos Stambolidis, the world famous performer Nana Mouskouri. Also, local associations – personalities who have contributed to the cultural development of Ermionida have been awarded, such as the “Ermionian Association” for its contribution to the promotion of the traditions and culture of Ermioni and the Ermionite philologist Yannis Isaias for his contribution to the promotion of the history, traditions and culture of Ermioni. The “trophy” of the “Marianna V. Vardinoyanni awards ” has been created by the Ermionite painter Anargyros D. Paschalis. It is worth noting that the Ermionite Marianna V. Vardinoyanni is an iconic and important personality worldwide.
